My Favorite Trends From Past Fashion Eras.

Apparently, in the fashion world, trends make a comeback every 20 years. It’s apparent if you pay attention to some of the most popular trends of the early 2000s, like bright neon colors, patterned leggings, legwarmers, lacey shirts, rhinestones and more. But despite what is said about the comeback of past trends, there are some things that I think will always be cute. I think there are really cool and fun trends from every fashion era and some that I find myself replicating in my own personal styling all the time. In this post, I'm going to share some of my favorite trends from past decades, and how I integrate them into my style to look like I just hopped out of a period piece (but in like a cool way.)

The ‘60s

We’re gonna kick off this list with some trends of the ’60s because I feel like before the ’60s fashion was a lot less wearable. I mean you could try to dress like a housewife of the ’50s but people would probably just think you are a cosplayer. I also might be biased because I have watched many many hours of The Brady Bunch and those girls are kind of serving looks in every episode let's not lie! So here goes some of my favs:

Mini skirts/dresses- when girls started to say “hey wait a minute maybe it's ok to show a lil skin” one of my favorite trends were born. Mini skirts are such a cute way to spice up a boring outfit

Use of colors: now this one is pretty vague but in the ‘60s, women started using color in new and unexpected ways like monochrome styles, color-blocking and venturing into more neon hues.

Patterns: Patterns are huge in every era but I especially love the use of plaid and stripes that took off in the 60s and often times finding myself gravitating to those things in thrift stores.

The ‘70s

I feel like a lot of the things I love about the 60’s bleeds into the 70s but here are some things that stand out

TURTLENECKS: I would say about 77% of my existence for the past 2 years has been in turtlenecks, which became a big thing for women in the 70’s. A very good look 10/10 recommend

Masculine Silhouettes- in the 70s with the rise of the feminist movement, more women toyed with the idea of throwing on some slacks and a blazer. And as a new collector of funky blazers, I am fully on board.

High waisted jeans: Yay! Women in jeans! So glad that development started occurring! And those high waisted cuts are some of my favorites ever.

The ‘80s

There are a lot of things that I don't love about the 80s. But as everyone who binged stranger things can tell you, it had some fun looks and some trends that are seen all the time in fashion today.

Graphic Tees: Ah yes. The classic graphic tee. Such a lazy day staple. Now, this might have been more of a guy thing in the ‘80s, but honestly let me live.

Loose-fitting clothes: mom jeans are straight out of the 80s and they are ALL OVER in wearable fashion today. Whoever’s idea it was to make women’s fashion baggy and comfortable should have won a Nobel Peace Prize. I throw on a baggy crewneck and salute those who paved the way.

Athleisure: Everyone knows the classic 80s stereotype, with a neon windbreaker, sneakers every day, and joggers. I think all of those things together might look a bit costumey, but on their own incorporated into modern outfits, they can really make statements

Those are all the eras I am going to talk about for now. I started to look into the ’90s (which was a fantastic time for fashion) but I found myself gravitating to the same trends that were just brought back from previous eras. I didn't just want to regurgitate information I already shared so this is where we will end. I hope this gives you an idea for things to possibly try integrating into your everyday style if you’re trying to go for a vintage style.
