Best Places to Seek for Fashion Inspo When Plagued With Lack of Creativity

Sometimes, ideas for new and interesting outfits come out of thin air, you are overflowing with creative energy and everything you touch turns into an outfit that will make every head turn when you walk down the hall. Sometimes it comes so easy and you are happy with the items in your closet, you feel confident, getting dressed is easy peasy lemon squeezy. Sometimes everything just falls into place.

And sometimes none of that happens and you are stuck staring into the abyss of your closet for an hour thinking “I have never purchased a cute item of clothing ever and every outfit I think of makes me look like a goblin living under a bridge.”

Both of these things happen to me frequently and when I am experiencing the latter, I have some go-to sources for feeding that really needy creativity monster inside your brain. That doesn’t really make sense. Here are some places I go for inspiration.

Pinterest

One of my favorite and most helpful yet most underrated platforms for inspiration is Pinterest. I know everyone used to be obsessed with Pinterest and then it kind of became less popular, but ever since I logged into my old account, scrubbed it completely of any whisper of what it used to be and created a board for fashion inspiration, it is my go-to source. It has ENDLESS content of any style you could possibly want and an algorithm that is made for inspiration. It takes a little bit to build up your board enough to get accurate recommendations, but it's so worth it.

Instagram

I'm not sure about everyone else, but my Instagram explore page is FULL of accounts that all have the sole purpose of outfit inspiration. And there are plenty for vintage styling, thrifted clothes, or any style you like. If you don’t feel like tracking one of them down, just go to the profiles of influencers who dress well, and see if there are any outfits you can recreate.

Movies and TV

Now this one is a little harder and a little weirder, but sometimes it helps to see an outfit in action to know if you like it. This is ideal for if you are going for a vintage style because there are so many iconic looks from pop culture that are easy to recreate. If you’re feeling a 70’s style, Jackie from “That 70’s Show” has some of the most iconic tv looks of all time. Another show that has amazing fashion is “Friends” if you’re feeling 90’s vibes. And basically every John Hughes movie is a love letter to 80s fashion, so crack open one of those bad boys.

Youtube (lookbooks)

Now I didn't really know what “lookbooks” were until like a year ago so if you also are a stranger to this beautiful thing, let me introduce you. I used to think lookbooks were just an excuse for rich youtube people to show off expensive outfits, but I wasn’t seeing the potential there. Lookbooks are basically just collections of outfits and you can find any kind of theme or aesthetic that you might want. This way, you can see how one might accessorize pieces you might already have.

All of these are places I regularly go for inspo, and they rarely fail me, but if all else fails, throw on a sweatshirt and go about your day. No one can blame you for one bad fashion day. No one can look fashionable all the time.
